How to Tell if Your Batteries Are Still Good

Simple Battery Test

Testing your batteries without a meter

We came across this great youtube video to show you a quick check of the life of your alkaline batteries when you don’t have a meter. EASY BATTERY TEST WITHOUT METER,
I had to try it! Here are my results:

  • AA batteries (from a height of 1 cm): Good battery stayed standing 9/10 times,  — dead battery fell over 10/10 times.
  • AAA batteries (from a height of 0.5cm because they are smaller and lighter): Good battery stayed standing 6/10 times — dead battery fell over 9/10 times
  • 9 Volt square battery (from a height of 1 cm): Good battery stayed standing 9/10 times — dead battery fell over 6/10 times

A reminder:
Your smoke or CO detector may rely on alkaline batteries to run; Many are wired to your electrical system but use alkaline batteries for battery backup. The importance of using a fully charged battery is critical.

This battery test may work to clean out the kitchen drawer, but always buy new, never used batteries for use in your smoke and CO detectors.
